Biography
Loved the intense competition and preparation for post-college rugby career.
Please share a fun fact about you or your favorite rugby memory.
As a freshmen competed against the UW as a member of the 1982 UW Stevens Point cross country team. Literally got beat by a mile which convinced me it was time to look for another sport. Glad I found the UW rugby team after I transferred to Madison.
Is there a specific achievement or contribution you're especially proud of from your time on the team?
Member of the 1985 team that beat the Wisconsin Rugby Club for the first time playing under the lights at Breese Stevens Field.
What have you been up to since graduating, or how did rugby impact your post-college life?
After graduating from the UW had opportunity to play in five national championship finals weekends. Twice with Chicago Lions, once with Milwaukee, and finally twice with Wisconsin Rugby Club winning in 1998. Retired from banking in 2019 and have since biked across the country twice with Carol.
Who were your most influential coaches or teammates, and why?
Coach Don Becker, Captains Jerry Cebe and Rich Beckman, and teammate Jeff Schraml for teaching me and leading me as I learned the sport.
What advice would you give to current or future rugby players at UW-Madison?
Get fit!, play hard! and enjoy the opportunity!
