Biography
John enjoyed playing for the UW Men's Rugby team as an undergraduate student for four years and cherishes the friends, memories and relationships formed during the many practices, parties, games and road trips. Playing mostly B-side Fly Half or Inside Center, John played with many great players and appreciates the athleticism, efforts, strategies, and resources needed to sustain a successful program. He is thrilled to be part of the UW Men’s Rugby Alumni Association to support and help create a solid future for UW Men's Rugby.
Fun Fact or Favorite Rugby Memory
One of my favorite memories was when we won the Wisconsin State Rugby Championship in Eau Claire. It was late in the season with cold temperatures near 40 F and November cloudy skies. The entire A-side was ready, well-seasoned, and enthusiastic for the game. Dr. Barry Hughes, who was from New Zealand and one of the team's best players as well as being a Coach, in a magnanimous gesture, decided to coach and allowed me, typically a B-Side player, to play in this championship game. This gesture really captures the teamwork and camaraderie that UW Men's Rugby exemplifies and the spirit of what lives on for future teams.
